FolianX vs Notion · checked 10 October 2026

A focused Notion alternative for team wikis—not every Notion workflow.

FolianX is the smaller, focused choice for notes, linked documentation and team knowledge. Notion is the broader workspace for databases, projects, native apps and integrations. Both now support workspace export and external AI tools through MCP, so those are shared capabilities—not honest differentiators.

FolianX facts come from the live product and plan configuration. Notion facts come from the official sources linked below. Prices, plans and third-party capabilities can change; verify them before purchasing.

Your main job is a clear team wiki

  • ✓ You need meeting notes, onboarding, decisions, playbooks and internal docs.
  • ✓ Linked pages, backlinks, search and teamspaces cover the structure you need.
  • ✓ Markdown export, explicit MCP token scope and hosting in France matter to your team.
  • ✓ You prefer a focused product and transparent per-member pricing.

Your workspace depends on databases and projects

  • → You need databases, formulas, boards, calendars, forms or workflow automation.
  • → Native desktop and mobile applications or offline pages are requirements.
  • → A large template and integration ecosystem outweighs having a narrower tool.
  • → Your existing Notion databases would be expensive or risky to rebuild elsewhere.

Scope is the decision—not a feature checklist victory

FolianX stops at connected notes and team knowledge. That means fewer surfaces to configure, but it also means no relational database, kanban board, calendar view, native app or offline mode. Those omissions are product boundaries, not features hidden on a higher plan.

The MCP difference is control shape. FolianX tokens are explicitly read-only or read-write, are stored only as hashes and can be revoked immediately. They follow everything the token owner can see and cannot yet be limited to one teamspace. Notion MCP also connects external assistants and respects the connecting user's Notion permissions.

The export difference is workflow, not availability. Both products export a workspace. FolianX offers direct page Markdown and a workspace zip; Notion exports HTML, Markdown and CSV, with PDF workspace export on specified plans. An export from either product may need cleanup before another product can recreate its structure.
